Ruins of Pompeii now on Google Streetview

This is cool: Google mapped and photographed the ruins of ancient Pompeii in Italy. Pompeii was a Roman city that was covered in volcanic ash after nearby Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D.

I visited Pompeii in 1997 and was struck by its relatively immense size, and appreciated how big of a disaster the eruption must have been for what was once a thriving little seaside city in the Roman empire.

Google gets into DNS

Posted by Jesse - December 4, 2009 | 11:04 am Comments Off

Google has launched a new service that it expects will boost web speeds and performance for users.

The leading Internet search and advertising company has inaugerated a public DNS service that users can configure to access through their own Internet connections.

DNS servers translate human readable domain names into the physical IP addresses of web, email and other Internet servers, allowing users to navigate using "Uniform Resource Location" (URL) names rather than the numerical quad-dot addresses that are actaally used to access servers on the Internet.

First Look at Google Wave

Posted by Jesse - November 30, 2009 | 9:43 am Comments Off

Like an excited little kid on his birthday, I practically squealed when I synced my mobile phone’s email client with my Gmail account and saw that a certain correspondent whose email ID was “wave-noreply@google.com” had sent me an email with the subject line “Your invitation to preview Google Wave”. I jumped out of bed, turned on my laptop and accepted the invite and started Wave-ing. It’s been a couple of hours since I woke up and I took a break only to brush my teeth and wash my face. I have been Wave-ing since seven in the morning (here).

Here, I present a visual journey through Wave, captured with screenshots. Since I have no contacts associated in Wave, I cannot tell you how it works as a collaboration platform. It does, however, look very interesting. So without further ado, here are the screenshots with explanations. Click through each picture to see a larger version.
